We all have a superpower! But how many of us use it?

Mags: ‘Today is going to be a good day’ and ‘I choose to have a good day’. Two similar sentences, but so different. The first one opens itself out to the influences from the outside. There are external factors that may be at play. And to be honest it might sound a bit unrealistic? But what if your car breaks down, or you don’t get that promotion at work that you have been so eagerly waiting for? What does it even mean that the day will be good? Different things can spoil that day for you.

The second sentence on the other hand indicates that despite whatever might happen in your life, you decide to have a good day. It does consider that things might not go according to plan, however, you are the driver in the seat, and you get to choose the day. And that choice is powerful! And it is yours!

For a while there I have struggled with affirmations. Don’t get me wrong, I strongly believe in the power of positive thinking. However, repeating some of the affirmations just didn’t gel with me at all. I felt like a fraud and didn’t believe when I was saying them. For example, the affirmation ‘I am strong’. On a day that I feel like curling up in a ball and not leaving my bed at all, repeating ‘I am strong’ does not do anything for me. If anything, it is usually followed by a “No I’m not!’ thought.  When I’m exercising at the gym, and I’m struggling, telling myself that ‘I am strong’ doesn’t help me. But what does, is if I say to myself ‘I choose to improve my strength, and this is the road I’m taking. And through a struggle, I will grow strong.’

I guess what I am saying here is, don’t follow the affirmations blindly, reframe them if needed, so that you feel the authentic power of them, own them, and through that, you might choose to have a good day.

Gosia: Good point MAGS. And what I noticed from my own experience and practise - affirmations used without “emotional” engagement simply don’t work…or don’t do their job. To let them help us in our process of grow and motivation for the rest of the day, we need to tune ourselves reaching higher energy. One day affirmations worked for me, some other day not…and I was wondering why sometimes I just couldn’t hook to the powerful commands with the same ease as on the other day.

In my understanding affirmations are very powerful technique, IF they are used properly. Basically, all sorts of inspirational, energising sentences or statements help us to achieve our goals when:

a)       we choose to act differently and in e.g. to have a successful day despite any circumstances

b)      incorporate the practice which helps us to uplift our emotions/feelings – morning meditation or quick walk or jogging or even morning coffee in a favourite mug! – whatever it is and works for you – just enjoy and practise :)

c)       take on board “affirmation technique” which can be like a rocket using our emotional state as a fuel and shifting our intentions to the field of action.

Despite any techniques, practises, or tool I agree that “consciousness about free choice” is a key to start and finish your day feeling good ;)
